"The Architecture of Late Socialism: Ghosts of the Past or Endangered Heritage?" For many inhabitants of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc, the Soviet era was a traumatic experience that is best forgotten. However, the period also left a unique architectural legacy across the region, which has lately been attracting more and more attention. For some, the late Soviet buildings are strange, ungracefully aging, politically charged monsters that should urgently disappear from the urban landscape; for others they are cultural heritage worth preserving. The exhibition aims to address and contextualize the historical, political, social, architectural and economic value of the Soviet built legacy based on examples from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Georgia. The posters were prepared by students of the Cultural Heritage Studies Program coming from these countries.
