"Time for Constructions" - The Reviving Heritage in the Carpathian Basin - Budapest - BUDAPEST, I.

Attention!

English language guided tours on request Tel: +36 30 4468518

Program description

The exhibition presents the results of the Rómer Flóris Plan launched by the Hungarian Government in 2015 to preserve the Hungarian historical monuments beyond the borders. The exhibition panels the uniquely designed stylized altarpieces and columns display photos not only of the renewed sites, but also of the restoration process. The lower sections of the panels and in some cases the rear sides of the altars’ swinging doors showcase images that capture the exciting or humorous moments of the renewal works. Copies of original objects, soundtracks, stories, folk music or church bell ringing make the exhibition more colourful.
An interactive section also connects to the exhibition. Here the visitors can try out the specific historic building preservation activities. They have the opportunity to dig for archaeological finds, search walls for whitewashed paintings or even restore murals. They can rebuild, though just on paper, the recently collapsed spires of two church towers .They can also try their luck with puzzles or can colour the reproductions of 17th century coffered ceilings. By rotating the wheels of a specifically designed installation the visitors can rearrange the scrambled pieces of six mural-sets from the 15th century. The lower cylinder shows the murals in their present state, while the upper displays the copies made at the end of the 1800's cy. By peeping into the replicas of an 18th century popular peep box, it is possible to glimpse into the interior of a few historical churches involved in the Plan.
The exhibition was staged by the Teleki László Foundation in cooperation with the House of Hungarians.

Bound for the New World - Life in the Hungarian Diasporas - Budapest - BUDAPEST, I.

Program description

The Archives safeguards the written records of the European heritage, so with this exhibition we have the opportunity to make the past accessible to future generations. In Hungary, we celebrate the year of families this year, whose retaining power was outstandingly important in the Hungarian diaspora on the basis of the evidence of the surviving and returned documents. The primary aim of the exhibition is to show the ways and strategies for preserving European cultural values among the Hungarian families and communities living in the diaspora. However, value mediation is a result of a longer process that we try to present to visitors through documents received during the Mikes Kelemen Program. However, value mediation is a result of a longer process that we present to visitors -with display cases and virtually- through documents received during the Mikes Kelemen Program. The exhibition follows the fate of Hungarians from the old country to new country, attempts to present the reasons of emigration, the difficulties encountered during the journey and the integration of the new society, and briefly presents the cultural institutions, which helps to preserve the Hungarian identity.

War, revolutions, traumas - Collection Day - Budapest - BUDAPEST, I.

Program description

Collection Day in the archives in cooperation with Fortepan and Europeana. The collection is primarily related to Europeana's First World War theme, primarily we are looking for documents in connection with the Great War, and digitize the document for the archives. The event would include a round table discussion. The broader topic will be the possibility of digitizing and publishing of digitized images: the aim of the program is to draw the attention of visitors to the collection of records in the archives, get them know how they can submit a document. Our institution increasingly opens up to digital content, for that purpose (also) it cooperates with other organizations.

“The Diplomatic Store - does anyone still remember this name? I mean that building in Arany János utca, where the most absurd trading took place (before 1989). Can you remember? Some Hungarians, during their (limited) trips to the West would rather skip a meal there in order to save some hard currency (strictly rationed) and then pay it into a local account which would then allow them to purchase “western goods” in the building at 32 Arany János utca, Budapest.” This is how an article in the Népszabadság daily newspaper described the Goldberger House, which was previously the retail outlet of the Goldberger family’s textile manufacturing company.

Since 2000 the building has been owned by the Central European University, and in 2005 Blinken OSA moved in. The basement of the building now holds the records of the fieldwork that underpinned Radio Free Europe's broadcasts during the Cold War, as well as a collection of Human Rights documents.

Gods on the Road: Vehicular Art in the Indian Subcontinent - Budapest - BUDAPEST, V.

Attention!

Entrance through the Nador 15 gate, registration at the reception desk.

Program description

Photo exhibition by Konstantin Novaković (Serbia)
Vehicle decoration is a well-known phenomenon in many Asian countries, in the Middle East, Africa and the Americas. Various versions of decorated cars, buses, and trucks are particularly widespread and elaborate in the countries of the Indian Subcontinent: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, as well as in Afghanistan, both in the towns and along the vast network of roads running in the landscape. The decoration of vehicles is a serious business, involving thousands of craftsmen. This knowledge as well as the objects are a part of cultural heritage in these countries. The carefully selected motifs reflect the social environment, the religious beliefs, superstitions, and overall worldviews of their owners and drivers. The exhibition will present a selection of photographs taken by Konstantin Novaković, alumnus of the Cultural Heritage Studies Program at CEU, who travelled all over the region during his fieldwork. The images will be accompanied by a brief summary of Konstantin’s original research results in this hardly known field of vernacular art.
The exhibition is open for visitors all during the European Heritage Days.

Heritage in Heritage - Budapest - BUDAPEST, V.

Attention!

Entrance through the Nador 15 gate, registration at the reception desk.

Program description

The concert performed by the Fortuna quartet (Anna Gál-Tamási and Júlia Szilágyi - violin, Vanessza Korb - viola, Hagiwara Riku – cello) is built around the theme of classical musical heritage. But classical music is heritage as such – one can say. However, members of the quartet will select pieces by composers reaching back to their own national cultural heritage. The audience of the duets and quartets will be able to discover the sounds of a Hungarian folk song, a German hymn, and a Russian song too.

Program description

We are expecting our visitors with brief concerts between the guided tours where they can relax their feet while listening to the musical pieces and even having a coffee or a piece of cake. They have their rehearsals in the living rooms of their apartments, and they perform in art galleries, churches, and apartment concerts. Now they will perform from Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D major, a piece by which, according to the legend, even Tolstoy was moved to tears.

Expressions from choral to tango - Gyüre - SZABOLCS-SZATMÁR-BEREG

Schiedmayer készítésű német fúvó légrendszerű harmónium
Expressziók a koráltól a tangóig (Elischer Balázs orgonaművész)
Ars Sacra fesztivál
Program description

Harmonium concert of the organist Balázs Elischer in the Reformed Church of Gyüre.

As the title shows, the concert is intended to re-establish the reputation of the harmonium, an almost – unjustly – forgotten musical instrument that is only known as a mere organ-substitute, by demonstrating the wide spectrum of colour and dynamics it is able to produce. In the course of the concert masterpieces of very different genres and historic styles will be heard, from classicism to impressionism, representing the oeuvre of such outstanding authors as César Franck, Siegfried Karg-Elert and Lefébure-Wély.

The audience can listen to the works on a restored two tier Schiedmayer press-wind harmonium. It is the original version of harmonium in opposition to the nowadays generally used suck-wind harmoniums, and is more suitable for concert and artistic purposes.
The most unique characteristic feature of that kind of concert harmonium is, that the player can present an extremely wide variety of dynamics by mere blowing, by pressing the bellows. That’s why we gave the phantasy-name to the concert: Expressions.

Balázs Elischer gives concerts on the harmonium since 2010. He often uses his own instrument, a two-manual Schiedmayer harmonium from 1892. Pieces selected from two major collections form the core of the program: the first one is César Franck’s two-volume The Organist (L’Organiste), the other one is Karg-Elert’s Portraits on Harmonium. In this latter series, the author imitates the style of different composers in each movement in honour of the most important masters of mucical history.
